Writerly is a project borne from an irrepressible need to detangle the tumult of reflections, observations, stories and creative ideas in my head. My intention was to break open a space, metaphorical brick by metaphorical brick, beyond the walls of my home (as a mum on maternity leave) and the classroom (as an educator who’s been in the game for almost a decade now), for myself and my students to explore what it really means to be creative - to experiment, to question, to write freely.
It has looked like creative writing groups during lunchtimes through which students have pushed the boundaries in their writing through style, form and subject. It has looked like me actually jotting down at least one of the myriad story ideas tumbling in my brain. It’s been rambling voice notes, thoughtful emails, sharing artwork, exploring identity, confronting vulnerabilities and conjuring courage.
